Leader Fly-Ins

Through our Fair Climate Leader Fly-Ins, we bring a group leaders from across the country to Washington, DC, for two days to learn about climate change, network with other leaders, and meet with decision makers.

In 2009, we organized three Fair Climate Leader Fly-Ins:

  • African American Leaders Fly-In held May 4 and 5, 2009.  Over 20 leaders representing 10 different states confirmed for our event gathered for the event.  We’ve pulled together a wide range of leaders, from business owners, clergy, to professors.
  • Faith Leaders Fly-In held June 9 and 10, 2009.  NWF hosted a Pastors’ Fly-In in partnership with the Christian Coalition of America (CCA) and the Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN).  The 12 conservative evangelical leaders were briefed on climate change and energy issues and on the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES) by CCA, EEN and NWF staff.  They then had met with key members of the U.S. House of Representatives, advocating support for ACES.
  • Fair Climate Fly-In held October 26 and 27, 2009.  Over 40 leaders joined us from throughout the US.  During Monday’s training, the room was full of exceptional individuals who contributed to stimulating and informative discussions. On Tuesday, the group, representing almost 20 different states, met with 41 Senate and House members, dropped by 19 additional offices, and delivered many ‘thank you’ letters to House members who voted yes to ACES.
