At our Regional Fair Climate Summits, we bring together community leaders from across social movements and business networks to:
- Inform each other of the work we are doing and how it intersects with efforts to curb climate change.
- Identify events, media opportunities, and other points of collaboration that we can work together to advocate for a Fair Climate Agenda.
- Develop a shared set of principles and policy objectives for which we can collectively advocate.
Southwest Fair Climate Summit:
On June 15th regional leaders representing tribes, low-income communities, communities of color, and other stakeholders whom share a common vision of rebuilding our communities will come together in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In 2009, we organized two summits:
Gulf Coast Fair Climate Summit:
On April 17, over 70 individuals gathered in New Orleans, LA for “From Katrina to Copenhagen: Promoting a Fair Climate Agenda.” The summit brought together people of diverse backgrounds to deepen our understanding of the intersections of climate change to the issues of race and gender justice, the lack of governmental accountability in times of disaster, coastal erosion, the survival of indigenous communities, environmental racism, public health, and the depletion of water and other natural resources.
The Summit was organized by: Advocates for Environmental Human Rights, Women’s Environment & Development Organization, National Wildlife Federation, Global Green USA, Alliance for Affordable Energy, Gulf Restoration Network, Vietnamese American Young Leaders Association of New Orleans, Deep South Center for Environmental Justice.
Midwest Fair Climate Summit: On June 24 and 25, over 30 organizations from across the Midwest gathered for the Midwest Fair Climate Summit “From Katrina to Copenhagen: Promoting a Fair Climate Agenda” in Southfield, MI.
The event was organized by: The Heat and Warmth Fund, Environmental Law and Policy Center, Parsons and Associates, Michigan Environmental Council, Plains Justice, Institute for Community Resource Development, Oxfam America, Global Exchange, Sierra Club Environmental Justice Program, National Wildlife Federation, and the Women’s Environment and Development Organization.
